From Arundo Donax cane to the finished reed

It all begins with the cane. Arundo Donax โ the giant reed โ grows in the warm coastal regions of southern France. Alexander Pilgerstorfer personally selects cane that meets his rigorous quality standards.
Only cane with the right density, fibre structure and maturity is chosen for processing. The cane is naturally dried โ a process that takes months but is crucial for the tonal properties.
In the workshop in Freistadt, Upper Austria, each reed goes through a multi-stage production process: splitting, shaping, profiling and final fine-tuning. Every single reed is inspected by hand.

The cane is dried naturally over months โ no artificial acceleration, just patience for optimal quality.
Each piece of cane is individually checked for density, structure and suitability before entering production.
Final profiling and adjustment is done by hand โ for consistent response and tonal quality.
"A good reed is like a fine wine โ it needs the right terroir, time and the hand of a master."โ Alexander Pilgerstorfer
